WHO Works Closely with Countries Witnessing Monkeypox

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it is working closely with countries witness an outbreak of monkeypox, WAM reported on Saturday.

The organization reflected that it is strengthening its ties with the countries that reported cases of monkeypox to identify the reasons for the virus spread in non-endemic countries.

11 countries reported the presence of the virus around the world including the US, Canada, Germany, and Israel. The total number of the confirmed cases until now is 80, alongside 50 suspected cases

The organization aims to support the infected people and help them with guidance to beat the disease, alongside organizing several meetings and discussions over the situation of the epidemic.

It is also still waiting for more data and updates regarding the virus from the countries suffer from the monkeypox.

The WHO called for an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the fast outbreak of monkeypox, a new global disease that fast emerged in Europe and Africa, after more than 100 cases were detected in Europe.

Germany has described the situation as the largest outbreak in Europe ever after cases have been registered in at least eight European countries. They are: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, alongside, the US, Australia, Canada, and Israel.

German military medical authorities said: “With several confirmed cases in the United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal, this is the largest and most widespread outbreak of monkeypox ever seen in Europe.”
