Who is UN Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goals in Egypt?

Hours ago, the United Nations appointed Dr. Nihal Magdy Refae as its ambassador for sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Egypt.

The appointment letter was signed yesterday by International President Ambassador Prof. Ephraim – Stephen Essien  and the International Secretary Ambassador Helena Lorentzen.

“This is to notify that, having met the requirements and conditions approved by the International Board of the Ambassadors of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Network, that you have been appointed Country Director – Egypt of the Ambassadors of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Network,” the appointment letter stated.

It also indicated that Refae is  going to “collaborate with the International Board of the organization by coordinating our activities in your country,” hoping she would “Accept the good wishes and felicitations of our noble organization’s leadership in esteemed regards.”

Refae is the organizer and vice president of the “International Nile Festival,” in which 35 countries participated. She was also invited as a guest of honor and a member of a jury in many international events in several countries.

She had a vital role in establishing a “friendship charter twinning” between the French city "Grasse" and the city of "Sharm El-Sheikh" in 2009, which was honored for in France in 2011.

She has received many medals and certificates of appreciation from various countries, including the ‘Medal of Honor’ from the First Lady in Portugal in 2008, ‘Shield of thanks and appreciation’ from Palermo, Italy in 2008, and many more. In addition to being honored by the French Senate last March for her role in consolidating Egyptian-French relations.
