In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) in Egypt, the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Finance, and the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics launched on Sunday the “National Health Accounts 2019/2020" report.

The report highlights health financing data in Egypt, with a detailed disaggregation by disease, geographic location, and source of funding, whether government spending or out-of-pocket spending by citizens or others, according to WHO.

The report also recommends increasing investment in preventing diseases and scaling up the government's reduction of out-of-pocket spending in areas where most expenditures flow: treatment services for non-communicable diseases, particularly kidney and heart diseases and mental health, and goods such as pharmaceuticals.

The launch event for the report featured appearances by Dr. Khaled Abdelghaffar, Minister of Health; Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation; Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance; WHO Representative in Egypt, Dr. Naima Al-Qaseer and Elena Panova, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt.
