WHO: COVID-19 Weekly Infections Drops by 7% Globally

The World Health Organization (WHO) mentioned that the COVID-19 weekly infections dropped by 7% globally, media agencies reported on Friday.

It added that the deaths linked to the COVID-19 also declined by the organization added that the number of deaths related to the virus also dropped by 10% in a week, as 2.8 million infections were recorded globally last week, alongside 46,000 deaths.

In the same context, the infection rates in Africa and the Pacific recorded the sharpest decline in the world. The rates of infections declined by 32% in Africa, and in west Pacific countries dropped by 27%.

On the other hand, the rate of deaths of COVID-19 in Europe jumped by 11%. The report asserted that Britain, Turkey, and Russia saw the highest number of weekly reported infections in Europe

Last week, WHO said that the COVID-19 weekly infections dropped by 9% globally.

It added that the number of deaths related to the virus also dropped by 4% in a week. 3.1 million infections were recorded globally last week, alongside 54,000 deaths.

In the same context, the infection rates in Africa declined by 43%, and in East Mediterranean dropped by 21%.

On the other hand, the infections in South East Asia saw a decline by 19%, compared to 12% in the Pacific.

Regarding the Americans, the percentage of infection rates drop reached 12%, unlike Europe which was the only region that saw a rise in infections by 5%.

In the same context, Dr. Abdel Nasser Abo Bakr, the head of the responsible team for managing the risks of infection at the regional office of WHO in the Middle East, said that there is a possibility for the emergence of more mutations forms of the COVID-19.
