WHO: Corona Deaths Decrease by 9%

The United Nations (UN) World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the death toll from the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19 ) in the world decreased during the past week by 9%, and new infections by 2%.

The UN organization indicated that the number of new infections during the week of December 13 to 19 reached 4,17 million cases, and the number of deaths was 44,616.

Of the new infections, 63% were recorded in Europe, in addition to 60% of deaths.

The organization recorded a significant increase in infections by 53% and deaths by 15% in Africa.

The number of infections increased by 12% in the Western Pacific region, with deaths decreasing by 6%.

The number of new infections decreased by 3% and new deaths by 7% in Europe, while in America, the infections decreased by 10% and deaths 15%, and in the Eastern Mediterranean region, the infections decreased by 12% and deaths by 12% as well.

As for countries, the largest number of new infections during the week was recorded in the United States of America (USA) which exceeded (725 thousand cases), Britain (507 thousand cases), France (358 thousand infections), and Germany (283 thousand infections).

According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, 274 million, 628 thousand and 461 cases were infected by the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19) have been recorded in the world since the beginning of the pandemic until December 21, in addition to 5 million, 358 thousand and 978 deaths.

The United States ranks first in terms of infections (50 million, 565 thousand and 638 cases), followed by India (34 million, 752 thousand and 164 injuries) and Brazil (22 million, 213 thousand and 762 injuries).

In terms of deaths, the United States also ranks first in the world with 799,942 cases, followed by Brazil (617,803 deaths) and India (478,7 deaths).
