White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby stated on Monday that Iran and its regional proxies might attack Israel this week, amid growing concerns of a major imminent attack in response to the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Speaking to reporters, Kirby said, according to The Hill, "The Iranian attack could happen this week, but the exact timing remains unclear," supporting media reports that Israel is anticipating an attack within days.
Kirby added, "We continue to monitor the situation closely and carefully... and we agree with Israel's assessment that something may happen this week by Iran and its proxies in the region."
