On Monday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki drew attention and commented on the latest social media outage saying that renowned social media platforms have lost their effective control on their servers mechanism.

Speaking to the public at the White House, Ms. Psaki made clear that the Biden administration wanted to see greater federal oversight off tech companies that have for now managed control of speech and violent or hateful rhetoric on their platforms themselves.

“Just the latest revelations” that point to the fact that “self-regulation is not working”, she noted.

She also claimed that Facebook FB, -4.89% put profits before safety is the latest revelation that "self-regulation is not working" for social media platforms.

Psaki's remarks came just two hours after the long-time global outage and the worst outage since 2008.

The renowned and most popular social media platform Facebook was also experiencing a major outage, with reporters tweeting information from sources at the company who described chaos behind the scenes as employees communicated through text message and email.

It's worth mentioning that "60 Minutes" interviewed on Sunday former Facebook data scientist Frances Haugen, who alleges that the company has been deceiving investors about how it has been dealing with hate speech and misinformation on its platform.

Indeed, Facebook's shares dropped as much as 6% on Monday. In response, Psaki said the Biden administration will support social-media reforms proposed by Congress.
