International organizations began sounding alarm bells after the collapse of parts of the Nova Kakhovka Dam and floods in the Ukrainian city of Kherson.

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of a worldwide food crisis due to the destruction of the Ukrainian dam.

The German news agency quoted the statements of the director of the program office, Martin Frick, in the German capital, Berlin, that "the massive floods will destroy the newly sown grain and eliminate the hopes of 345 million people suffering from hunger all over the world, which the Ukrainian grain represents a lifeline for them."

According to preliminary estimates, Ukraine's Ministry of Agriculture expects about "10,000 hectares" of farmland in southern Ukraine to be flooded after the dam is destroyed.

After the flood waters inundated the northern bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, the ministry also expects the floods to inundate the area located on the southern bank of the Dnipro River.

On the reasons for the destruction of the dam, Russia and Ukraine exchange accusations about that, and each side describes what happened as a terrorist attack and an unprecedented disaster for the environment.

Frick added that food prices have reached their highest level in the global market in 10 years, and he feared that the destruction of the dam would cause further price increases.
