The Director of the Emergency Department at the World Food Program  (WFP) Margo van der warned that the number of people who will go hungry this year will increase if the conflict in Ukraine continues unabated.

Van der revealed that the war in Ukraine has caused disruptions in global food and energy markets and warned that up to 323 million people will face the risk of acute hunger in 2022.

According to the United Nations Information Center, the UN official said that four years have passed since the Security Council adopted the historic resolution 2417 (May 24, 2018), which strongly condemned the use of starvation of civilians as a method of fighting in a number of conflict situations, which is prohibited under international humanitarian law.
