French footballer Kylian Mbappé tweeted following the France-Argentina match in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar Sunday evening.
Mbappé wrote on Twitter: “Nous reviendrons (We will return), along with a photo of himself walking past the World Cup trophy, with his Golden Boot.
The French icon became the second player to score a hattrick in a World Cup final after England’s Geoff Hurst’s three goals against West Germany in 1966.
Mbappé stunned Argentina and force extra time, as he scored on a penalty in the 80th minute and added a second goal two minutes later to equalize.
With a 3-3 (4-2 penalty kick shootout) victory over defending champion France, legend Lionel Messi became a World Cup champion in what might be his final World Cup match. This marks Argentina's third title throughout the years.
On his part, French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted “The Blues made us dream,” hailing the French national football team’s performance in the match.
Macron was seen comforting Mbappé after the loss, as he was trying to put an arm around the French striker after the final whistle as he joined other players on the pitch. However, the golden boot winner shrugged off the president and it looked like he was the last person the player wanted to see.
