On Sunday, streams of massive molten rocks and magma suddenly came out of the bottom of the Spanish La Palma Volcano while a series of tremors shook the ground three weeks after it erupted.
Responding to this incident, the National Security Department official took to Twitter and wrote, "The collapse of the northern flank of the Cumbre Vieja volcano has caused the release of large blocks of material and the appearance of new flows that run through areas already evacuated."
"The lava has reached the Camino de la Gata industrial estate and new buildings," he revealed.
In the last month, streams of molten rock that pour from the Canary Islands‘ first volcanic eruption in 50 years have forced the evacuation of 5,500 people and devastated at least 100 houses, according to Spanish media.
According to international reports, Lava streams from the Cumbre Vieja volcano have been pouring downhill since Sunday’s eruption, destroying everything in its path. Meanwhile, domestic media reported that nearly 100 houses have been destroyed so far.
The Spanish media also said the volcano eruption on La Palma in the Spanish Canary Islands has destroyed houses and forced about 5,500 residents to leave the area.
In response to this information, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez took to La Palma on Sunday to oversee rescue efforts.
According to a statement by the Spanish government, Sanchez said: “Authorities are closely monitoring fires that may start from the burning lava. The rescue teams have been deployed to help.”
In the same context, the local mayor Sergio Rodriguez told Spanish broadcaster TVE: “The lava left absolutely nothing in its path.”
“The residents would not be returning home for a while,” he added.
