A hot air balloon with five passengers aboard struck a power line in New Mexico’s largest city, killing five people after a gondola hit the ground, according to international reports released on Sunday.

In a statement, the police spokesman Gilbert Galego said: "The crash occurred west of Albuquerque around 7 am. The identity was not disclosed, but fire officials said three men and two women, including the pilot, had died."

"Four of them died on the scene, and a fifth was sent to the death after being taken to New Mexico's hospital in a serious condition," the statement added.

In the same context, the lower part of the parachute fell about 100 feet (30 meters), crashed at the median of a busy street, and ignited, according to the American authorities.

In a viral video of this incident, it can be seen that the bystanders are calling on the fire extinguisher to extinguish the flames and prayed aloud.

Responding to this horrific accident, one of the video viewers wrote: "I can't imagine how terrifying that must have been, and painful. My heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the accident victims."
