Amr Warda has opened up about his disciplinary debacle during his time with the Egyptian national team in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, affirming that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah stood by him.

Warda was involved in a famous sexual harassment scandal during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when texts on an inappropriate images between him and a fan were leaked.

This caused his exclusion from the squad for one game before returning for their 1-0 loss against South Africa in the round of 16.

He has since never been called-up for the national team under Hossam El-Badry’s management.

“I was fighting for the Egyptian national team. Everyone commits mistakes and is forgiven,” Warda said.

“I miss the national team and I was one of the important players.

“Salah knows that I did nothing. I gave him my mobile phone, he knows that everyone does mistakes and that I was oppressed. I stayed in my hotel room for 10 days.

“The entire Egypt team was by my side. What happened was two or three years ago, certainly, someone wanted to create an issue for me.

“Why would I apologise? I swear that I did nothing wrong and my family is fully aware of that,” he added.
