Vinícius Júnior, the Real Madrid forward, has issued an official apology to head coach Xabi Alonso, his teammates, and the club’s fans following his reaction to being substituted during the El Clásico against Barcelona in the Spanish League.

In an official statement, Vinícius wrote: “Today, I would like to apologize to all Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted during the Clásico. As I did personally in training today, I also want to apologize once again to my teammates, to the club, and to its president.”

He added: “Sometimes my emotions get the better of me because of my constant desire to win and to help my team. My competitive spirit comes from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents. I promise to keep fighting every second for Real Madrid’s success, just as I have done since my very first day here.”

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, Real Madrid’s management does not intend to impose any fine or disciplinary action against Vinícius, viewing the incident as a spontaneous emotional reaction to his unexpected substitution.

Reports earlier suggested that the Brazilian forward had even considered leaving Real Madrid following his substitution in Sunday’s El Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which ended in a 2–1 victory for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid currently sits at the top of the La Liga table with 27 points, five points ahead of their arch-rivals Barcelona.
