Foreign arrivals with valid visas can enter Vietnam without having to obtain prior permission from the immigration department, local authorities announced Wednesday.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has agreed to simplify administrative procedures for those entering Vietnam, according to the Government Office's statement.

In this sense, foreigners that are not tourists can enter Vietnam without having to apply for approval from the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or local authorities.

Nonetheless, those who want to visit the country for tourism purposes must follow all regulations applied to international tourists.

On the other hand, the country has detected its first three community cases of the omicron variant, local media reported Wednesday.

The three cases were detected over the weekend in Ho Chi Minh City, the most populous city for which authorities have started a process to detect and isolate people in contact.

At the beginning of the year, Vietnam marked its first regular international flight after a nearly two-year hiatus since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A flight, carrying 121 passengers from Cambodia’s Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh, landed in the southern economic hub’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport Saturday evening.

It followed Vietnam’s plan to reopen air routes to destinations abroad to start the first day of 2022 and resume international passenger transport and boost economic recovery.
