The first of the trapped miners was rescued from a gold mine in northern China on Sunday morning after being trapped 600m underground for 14 days, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The miner rushed to hospital for treatment, as he was in "extremely weak physical condition," CCTV stated.

TV footage showed a masked man, who appeared unable to stand, being lifted out of the mine shaft to the surface and covered in a blanket before being carried away by rescue workers.

“Miracle of life: A Chinese miner has been rescued two weeks after being trapped hundreds of meters underground in Shandong Province,” China Xinhua News wrote on Twitter.

The Chinese rescuers are exerting their efforts to free all the trapped miners, and “some of them are expected to be lifted to the surface of the earth later today,” Xinhua News affirmed.

“Chinese rescuers are going all out to save miners trapped hundreds of meters underground in Shandong Province,” they asserted in another tweet. “Some of the miners are expected to be lifted to the surface of the earth later today”

Twenty-two workers were trapped since an explosion closed the entrance tunnel in the Hushan gold mine by the Jan. 10 blast in Shandong province.

The entry into the mine was severely damaged and communication was cut off by unexplained explosion.

There was no sign of life or a whole week; however, last Sunday, rescuers felt a pull on one of the ropes they were lowering into small shafts leading down into the dark.

The reason of the explosion has not yet been revealed.

One miner has died and 11 have not been in contact with rescue teams, Xinhua reported last week.
