The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the appointment of South African Victor Miguel de Freitas Gomes as the center referee for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final game between Algeria and Senegal.
The 37-year-old FIFA badge referee is widely regarded as one of the best referees in the continent.
"Victor Gomes is the center referee for AFCON final clash between Algeria and Senegal," CAF announced on its official page on Twitter. The CAF did not reveal Gomes' assistants or the crew of Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
The Desert Warriors will play against Teranga Lions on Friday, July,19 at Cairo Stadium (21:00 CLT).
It is worth mentioning that the South African referee took charge of two clashes at the 2019 tournament. The first encounter was between hosts Egypt and DR Congo in the group stage, while the second game was between Tunisia and Ghana in the last 16.
