Germany national football team midfielder Joshua Kimmich revealed that a venomous copperhead snake was recently spotted near the team's training base in Winston, United States, during the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking to German media, Kimmich said the snake's bite would require immediate hospital treatment and described the situation as potentially dangerous if someone accidentally stepped on it.
He added that such wildlife is uncommon in Germany, making the experience unusual for the squad.
Germany opened their World Cup campaign with an emphatic 7-1 victory over Curaçao and currently sit in Group E alongside Ecuador and Ivory Coast.
The German team is not the only delegation to report wildlife concerns. The Norway national football team reportedly received warnings about venomous snakes and lizards in North Carolina, while the Switzerland national football team has also expressed concerns about snakes near its base camp in California.
