Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has issued an urgent appeal for an immediate ceasefire in the escalating Israel-Palestine conflict and emphasized the need for swift humanitarian aid to assist affected civilians. Speaking at the BRICS+ summit, Mirziyoyev voiced deep concern over the rising violence and the growing humanitarian crisis, particularly the tragic loss of innocent lives, including children.
“No political goals can justify the deaths of innocent children,” the Uzbek leader declared, condemning the civilian casualties and stressing the importance of safeguarding human lives amid the conflict.
Mirziyoyev also reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s support for a two-state solution, calling it the only viable path toward resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict. He emphasized the need for peaceful negotiations based on this principle, urging all parties to engage in dialogue to achieve a lasting resolution.
Beyond the immediate crisis in the Middle East, the President reflected on broader global challenges. He expressed concern about the increasing number of conflicts around the world, the fragmentation of trade, and rising inequalities that threaten global stability. Mirziyoyev stressed the urgency of reforming international governance institutions to better address these issues and called for greater cooperation through “South-South” and “North-South” dialogues to reduce divisions and foster development.
Mirziyoyev also highlighted the growing importance of BRICS in the evolving geopolitical landscape. He praised the group’s emphasis on equality, sovereignty, and constructive dialogue, noting that it offers a framework for a more just global order. “In today’s challenging geopolitical environment, BRICS stands out as a model of cooperation built on mutual respect, offering a strong foundation for a fairer world,” he said.
The President outlined Uzbekistan’s active participation in BRICS initiatives, including the Youth Summit, Sports Games, and high-level security meetings. He underscored Uzbekistan’s interest in strengthening cooperation with BRICS in critical areas such as innovation, digital economy, green development, and energy. Additionally, Mirziyoyev expressed the country’s enthusiasm for joining BRICS’ emerging projects on artificial intelligence and sustainable development.
Mirziyoyev also addressed key global concerns, urging greater collaboration on food and energy security. He stressed the importance of increased investment in infrastructure, social development, and poverty reduction in developing nations. In this context, he welcomed deeper cooperation with the BRICS New Development Bank to support these efforts.
Turning to regional security, Mirziyoyev warned of the dangers posed by international terrorism and extremism, particularly the risks of radicalization among young people. He stressed the need for proactive measures to prevent the spread of extremism.
The President also touched on the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, urging the international community to support Afghanistan’s development and avoid isolating the country. He emphasized that promoting stability in Afghanistan is critical for regional security.
Mirziyoyev concluded his speech by reiterating Uzbekistan’s commitment to deepening cooperation with BRICS and working together to address pressing regional and global challenges. He emphasized that through collaborative efforts, countries can foster peace, development, and sustainability in an increasingly fragmented world.
