The United States became the second team to qualify for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Australia on Friday at Lumen Field in Seattle.
The Americans took an early lead in the 11th minute when Australian defender Cameron Burgess accidentally turned the ball into his own net, marking the seventh own goal of the tournament.
Alex Freeman doubled the advantage just before halftime, finding the net in the 43rd minute to give the hosts full control of the match.
With the victory, the United States moved to the top of Group D with six points from two matches, guaranteeing their place in the knockout stage.
Australia remained second on three points and will now face a decisive final group-stage match in their bid to advance.
