The United States hosted the third and final opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held just moments before kickoff of the country’s first match in the tournament between the United States and Paraguay.
The event took place at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and featured a large-scale celebration, including a giant replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy placed at the center of the pitch, along with live musical performances and choreographed entertainment shows.
The ceremony is part of FIFA’s unprecedented decision to stage three separate opening celebrations across the tournament’s host nations, Mexico, Canada, and the United States, reflecting the expanded and multi-host nature of the 2026 World Cup.
Organizers confirmed that each host country would stage its own official ceremony before its first match, creating a series of opening celebrations rather than a single traditional event.
The Los Angeles ceremony included performances by international artists and dance troupes, designed to reflect the global spirit of the tournament.
The brief but visually rich show lasted only a few minutes but drew strong crowd engagement inside the stadium.
The United States is competing in Group D of the tournament, alongside Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey, and began its campaign against Paraguay immediately following the ceremony.
Earlier in the tournament, Canada also hosted its own ceremonial opening event ahead of its first match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring cultural performances highlighting Canadian heritage and national identity.
Mexico previously staged the official opening match of the tournament, marking the beginning of what is already being described as the most expansive World Cup in history, with 48 teams competing across three countries.
The 2026 edition continues to blend sport, entertainment, and cultural celebration on an unprecedented global scale.
