The US Embassy in Baku on Saturday warned Americans and foreigners of possible terrorist operations and kidnappings in Azerbaijan, where a conflict is roiling the separatist province of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The U.S. Embassy in Baku has received credible reports of potential terrorist attacks and kidnappings against U.S. citizens and foreign nationals in Baku, including against hotels such as the J.W. Marriott Absheron, as well as potentially other locations in Baku,” it stated through its official website.

The official website provided a number of measures to be taken, such as; exercising caution, avoiding crowds, maintaining vigilance, and monitoring local media for the latest developments.

“ U.S. citizens are advised to exercise heightened caution in locations where Americans or foreigners may gather.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met separately on Friday with his counterparts from Armenia and Azerbaijan, urging them to “end the violence and protect civilians.”
