The United States warned on Wednesday that there was "no military solution" to Ethiopia's civil war and said it supported diplomacy as the "first, last and only option" after state media said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was on the front lines.
“We are aware of reports that Prime Minister Abiy is at the front today, and media reports of high-ranking Ethiopian athletes, parliamentarians, party and regional leaders have also announced that they will join Prime Minister on the front lines,” the spokesman said.
"We urge all parties to refrain from inflammatory and hostile rhetoric, exercise restraint, respect human rights, allow humanitarian access, and protect civilians."
