The United States Department of the Treasury has announced a new round of sanctions targeting a network of individuals and entities accused of facilitating sanctions evasion for the Iranian government.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Treasury Department confirmed that the new measures apply to 33 entities and individuals. According to U.S. officials, these targets played a critical role in helping Iran bypass existing international restrictions.
The Treasury further alleged that the funds generated and moved by these entities have been used to support activities characterized as state-sponsored terrorism. "The financial resources provided by these individuals and organizations have directly funded Iran's regional operations and destabilizing activities," the department stated.
This latest move highlights the continued U.S. strategy of maximum economic pressure as tensions remain high regarding international security and regional influence.
