US to Suspend Port Fees on Chinese Ships

The United States plans to suspend port fees on vessels linked to China for one year starting next week, marking a step toward easing maritime tensions that have become a contentious point in the ongoing trade dispute between the two nations.

According to a White House briefing cited by Bloomberg, the suspension will take effect on 10 November and will pause measures previously introduced to counter China’s dominance in global shipping.

In response, Beijing announced it will also suspend its retaliatory measures, signalling a coordinated effort to de-escalate tensions.

The decision follows last week’s trade truce between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which both leaders agreed on a series of compromises across key sectors including semiconductors, rare earth minerals, and soybeans.
