The United States intends to expand the sanctions regime against Russia and to tighten control over other countries' compliance with it.
"We will continue to put economic pressure on Russia. We will not only continue to [impose] sanctions, but also continue to expand them, as well as tighten [oversight] on their implementation [by other countries]," Douglas Jones, deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, told reporters Thursday.
Jones stressed that the United States and its allies will continue to provide comprehensive assistance to Ukraine, including arms supplies.
He also stressed that US sanctions are already affecting the Russian economy and its military-industrial complex, adding that due to US export control restrictions, this complex could not produce "certain weapons systems"..
