The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted 52-48 to acquit US President Donald Trump of abuse of power, and 53-47 of obstruction of Congress, ending his historic impeachment trial.

Trump is the 1st president in the history of the US to escape isolation session.

Minutes after his acquittal by the Senate on both articles of impeachment, Trump tweeted that he will address the nation “to discuss our country’s victory on the impeachment hoax”, on Thursday from the White House.

US President’s impeachment acquittal has sparked a wide range of reactions within the US.

The White House

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement, “Today, the sham impeachment attempt concocted by Democrats ended in the full vindication and exoneration of President Donald J. Trump. As we have said all along, he is not guilty.”

US House Speaker

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted the Senate Republicans' votes to acquit President Donald Trump of two impeachment articles.

She accused the Republican-dominated Senate of ignoring the facts, "the will of the American people and their duty to the Constitution".

She said Trump "remains an ongoing threat to American democracy" because he will remain in office after Wednesday's acquittal vote.

Senate Democratic minority leader

Senate Democratic minority leader Chuck Schumer that Trump's acquittal by the Senate was "virtually valueless" since Republicans refused witnesses at his impeachment trial.

"Now that Republicans have rejected a fair trial, truth is a giant asterisk next to the president's acquittal," Schumer told reporters.

"The asterisk says he was acquitted without facts. He was acquitted without a fair trial. And it means his acquittal is virtually valueless," the senator from New York said.

"The White House may be cheering this as a win," Schumer said, but "history will view this as a Pyrrhic victory for Senate Republicans, for the Republican Party and for President Trump."
