Rick Perry the Secretary Energy, will travel to Israel and Egypt next week to hold meetings around regional energy and cybersecurity issues.

According to an Energy Department official, Perry will visit Cairo, as part of a Middle East trip for talks on security and stability in the region; he will also represent the United States at the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum.

Noteworthy, this forum will include delegates from Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and the Palestinian authority.

Meanwhile, the visit comes amid rising regional tensions between the U.S. and Iran as the Islamic Republic continues to break key parts of the 2015 nuclear agreement, in response to sanctions reimposed on the country by Washington.

Later, Greek energy minister Costis Hatzidakis, underlined the importance placed by the new government on the Eastern Mediterranean energy issues. The first step of discussions will take place on the weekend of July 24-25 at the East Mid Gas Forum to be held in Cairo.
