Washington has revoked the entry visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro after accusing him of urging American soldiers to disobey orders and inciting violence during an appearance in New York on Friday, according to the US State Department.
The State Department announced the decision in a post on the social media platform X, describing Petro’s actions as reckless and inflammatory.
Officials stressed that the cancellation was directly linked to his recent conduct, which they deemed a serious breach of diplomatic norms.
The move adds further strain to relations between Washington and Bogotá, with observers noting it is highly unusual for the US to impose such a measure on a sitting head of state.
