The US, Friday, rejoined UNESCO, after the country's withdrawal from the UN organization during the run of Donald Trump.

Former president Donald Trump announced in 2017 that he is pulling the country out of UNESCO, and the decision took effect in 2018.

A session of the UN General Assembly was held, on Friday, for voting on the return of the US to UNESCO.

A total of 132 members voted in favor, 10 against, and 15 abstained.

Denise Bauer, the US ambassador to France told AFP: "It is so important for us to rejoin, to be part of this very very important multilateral organization."

"We are just incredibly grateful for the leadership that was shown by key members," she added.

Dissenting votes included Iran, Syria, China, North Korea, and Russia.
