US Records Highest Daily Increase in Coronavirus Infections

US's Johns Hopkins University, which releases figures regarding infection and death rates due to coronavirus pandemic, reported that the daily toll exceeded the 80,000 threshold for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The university, which bases its statistics on the data of federal and local official bodies and open sources, confirmed that the USA recorded 83,757 new cases of the pandemic yesterday, Friday, which is the largest daily increase, up from 71,671 cases on Thursday.

Reports released by the university indicated that the death toll of the deadly virus in the USA  rose yesterday by 943 new deaths, compared to 856 deaths the previous day.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus infections that have been recorded in the United States since the beginning of the pandemic, according to university data, has become eight million and 493 thousand and 747 infections, of which 223 thousand 995 deaths.

This toll is the largest death toll in the world.

On the other hand, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Friday that the spread of the new Coronavirus will create very great difficulties in the coming months in all parts of the world.

He added during his press statement that the world is at a critical crossroads for the COVID- 19  pandemic, especially in the northern hemisphere.

Head of the WHO  warns that the next few months will be very difficult, and some countries are on a dangerous path for not introducing more restrictive preventive measures.

Ghebreyesus explained that many countries are facing a sharp increase in the rate of infections, which may soon push health care systems to their limits.
