The United States has confirmed its opposition to the construction of a permanent Israeli military base in Gaza, following reports that the Israeli military is accelerating the building of military facilities in the region.

According to a recent report, satellite images show that construction activities have intensified in central Gaza, with over 600 buildings demolished in the area.

This suggests that Israel may be planning for a long-term military presence in the Palestinian territory.

In response to the report, the US State Department stated that while it could not independently verify the details, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had previously expressed opposition to any permanent Israeli presence in Gaza, particularly since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The US emphasized that if the reports are accurate, they would conflict with key principles outlined by Blinken, who has consistently advocated for no further territorial expansion in Gaza and stressed that forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes should not occur.

The Pentagon has also weighed in, reiterating that Israel should not maintain control over Gaza once a ceasefire is reached and after Hamas is neutralized.

The US government continues to engage with Israel on the matter, but its primary focus remains on securing a ceasefire, releasing hostages, and bringing the conflict to an end.

In response to the report, the Israeli military clarified that the ongoing construction in Gaza is intended for operational purposes. The military emphasized that any infrastructure built could be quickly dismantled if necessary, signaling that the facilities are not intended for permanent use.

The US position against a permanent Israeli military presence in Gaza is part of its broader stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The situation in Gaza remains highly volatile, with the international community, including the United States, calling for an immediate ceasefire and long-term resolution.

The accelerated construction of military bases in Gaza raises concerns about the future stability of the region and the potential for further escalation.
