US Officials Warn: Protests Could Lead to  2nd Coronavirus Wave

The "New York Times", one of the biggest English-language newspapers in the US, said that the massive protests against the police brutality in the cities all over the country, raises the specter of a new wave of Corona virus, so the political leaders, parents and public health experts warned that crowds and gatherings could causes more cases.

While many political leaders stressed the demonstrators' right to express themselves, they urged the demonstrators to wear face masks and maintain social distance to protect themselves and prevent further spread of the virus.

“New York health officials urged protesters to take whatever precautions they could while demonstrating and invited them to get tested for the virus,” the newspaper said.

The newspaper pointed out that the protests in dozens of cities, came after killing African-American citizen George Floyd, while the police were trying to detain him in the city of Minneapolis.

Noteworthy, thousands of protesters have been arrested by US police since the protests erupted over killing a black man by a white policeman in Minneapolis.

The US authorities arrested about 1,400 protesters in 17 states due to the unlicensed protests and riots that erupted after killing George Floyd, AP reported,

The Pentagon has ordered, on Saturday, the deployment of units of the Military Police in Minneapolis, due to the escalation of protests that have turned into riots, AP reported.

The state of Georgia declared a state of emergency, due to the escalation of protests and riots after killing a black man earlier this week by the police in a brutal manner.

Noteworthy, fierce protests have been raging in Minneapolis since an unarmed black man, George Floyd, 46, died after a white officer knelt on his neck last Monday.

Floyd, allegedly tried to pass counterfeit bills at a corner eatery, was taken by ambulance from the scene of his arrest and declared dead the same night at a hospital.
