A U.S. military pilot died in a crash near a Marine Corps outpost in San Diego, the U.S. Marine Corps said.
The Marine Corps said in a statement that the pilot was the only person on board the F/A-18 Hornet when it crashed at 11:54 p.m. Thursday local time.
The statement said search and rescue personnel recovered the pilot's body near the crash site near Marine Corps Air Force Base Miramar. He added that the pilot's identity would not be revealed until his family was notified.
ABC News, citing an unidentified defense official, said the plane was on a training flight.
