United States (U.S.) and Iraq have reaffirmed the importance of Iraqi sovereignty for regional security and stability, according to a statement published on the official U.S. Department of State website on Saturday.
The statement noted that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein in Washington, D.C., on April 25.
Moreover, both ministers discussed the significance of Iraq’s sovereignty in maintaining regional security and stability.
Rubio praised Iraq’s efforts to promote de-escalation and constructive dialogue across the region.
The statement added that Rubio and Hussein also explored opportunities to expand economic cooperation and increase trade and investment between the United States and Iraq.
Furthermore, Rubio commended Iraq for hosting the first-ever U.S. Department of Commerce-certified trade mission in Baghdad earlier this month, which resulted in multi-billion-dollar agreements with American companies.
