US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had her purse stolen during a family dinner at a Washington restaurant on Easter Sunday, according to US officials and media reports published Monday.
Al Arabiya reported that the stolen purse contained $3,000 in cash, identification documents, house keys, and a department security pass. Noem was carrying the cash to use for family outings and to buy gifts.
The incident occurred at a popular burger restaurant where Noem was having dinner with relatives. Surveillance camera footage, according to several media outlets, showed a masked man stealing the purse and leaving the restaurant.
Noem initially thought one of her grandchildren had touched her leg, but moments later, she realized the purse was missing. She confirmed to NBC News that the incident is under investigation.
