US Presidential Envoy Amos Hochstein commented on the ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, stating that "there is no perfect agreement, and a better deal was not achievable."
Hochstein added, "Separating the Gaza and Lebanon conflicts was the key to resolving the dispute between Israel and Hezbollah. Hezbollah's weakening played a crucial role in reaching the ceasefire agreement."
He further explained that previous proposals, such as designating Israel as an occupying force or establishing a buffer zone in Lebanon, were impractical and unrealistic, noting that Lebanon would have outright rejected them. "Had the Israelis chosen to establish a buffer zone, their army would have operated as an occupying force within that zone, making an agreement impossible," Hochstein concluded.
