The U.S. Embassy in Cairo has officially launched America250, a year-long celebration marking 250 years of U.S. independence, alongside commemorating the 70th anniversary of the American Center Cairo (ACC).

U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg led the kickoff event on Tuesday, November 25, at the ACC headquarters in Cairo. The ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhy and Luxor Governor Engineer Abdel Muttalib Emara.

Ambassador Mustafa Garg highlighted the ACC’s historic role as a cornerstone of cultural and educational exchange between Egypt and the United States.

“For 70 years, the American Center Cairo has brought Egyptians and Americans closer together,” she said. “And tonight, the ACC is the launchpad for our historic America250 campaign. We look forward to working closely with our Egyptian friends in the public and private sector to celebrate American excellence and underscore the deep and abiding U.S.-Egypt relationship in fields as diverse as trade, education, security, and sports.”

Founded in 1955, the ACC has long served as a hub for learning, skills development, and cross-cultural dialogue. Its programs—from English-language learning and entrepreneurship workshops to technology training—have supported generations of Egyptians in advancing their education, careers, and professional networks.

The anniversary event also recognized the center’s extensive partnerships with organizations such as the Egypt Society for Culture and Development (ESCD), Amideast, the American University in Cairo, Misr Public Library, and various local and international institutions. These collaborations have enabled the ACC to expand its reach and impact across Egypt.

As part of the America250 celebrations, the embassy plans a series of cultural and public diplomacy events. On December 5, Cairo will host a joint U.S.-Mexico-Canada event to mark the draw for the FIFA World Cup 2026, taking place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The following day, December 6, America250 activities will move to Luxor for the opening of a new American Corner at the Misr Public Library—the U.S. Embassy’s first dedicated programmatic hub in Upper Egypt. The embassy will also stage a “Pop-Up USA” cultural and educational fair in front of Luxor Temple on the same day.

The America250 initiative will spotlight 250 years of American innovation, achievement, and democratic values, while also celebrating more than a century of U.S.–Egypt partnership.
