Tulsi Gabbard, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI), has officially announced her resignation, with her final day in office set for June 30.

According to ABC News, a source familiar with the matter confirmed Gabbard’s decision. President Donald Trump has appointed her deputy, Aaron Lucas, to serve as acting DNI.

Gabbard cited personal reasons for stepping down, stating her desire to support her husband, who is battling a “very rare form of bone cancer.” She informed President Trump of her decision during a meeting in the Oval Office, concluding her approximately 18-month tenure leading the U.S. intelligence community.

During her time as DNI, Gabbard oversaw a critical period for national security and intelligence operations, balancing domestic and international priorities in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Her departure underscores the human side of public service, as she steps away from high office to prioritize family obligations.

Aaron Lucas will assume leadership responsibilities temporarily as the intelligence community prepares for a permanent successor.
