The United States Department of State has greenlit a potential sale of advanced TOW (Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided) anti-tank missiles to Saudi Arabia, including extensive logistical and technical support, valued at approximately $440 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) formally notified Congress of the proposed transaction, which aims to reinforce Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities against current and emerging threats while promoting political and economic stability in the Gulf region.
The package comprises 507 TOW 2A missiles, 507 TOW 2B missiles, and seven testing missiles for each model.
Additionally, it includes essential support equipment, training, and maintenance resources such as simulators, generators, communications tools, and technical training programs.
The DSCA clarified that the sale is designed to bolster Saudi Arabia’s internal defense mechanisms without impacting the overall military balance in the region.
The TOW missile, a long-range, wire-guided weapon, effectively counters armored vehicles, fortifications, and amphibious targets, granting ground forces a critical advantage in combat.
