The US has approved a potential $11.9 billion military equipment sale to Germany, in a move aimed at strengthening NATO’s collective defense capabilities.
According to the US Department of State, the proposed deal supports US foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a key NATO member.
Germany is seeking to acquire eight integrated combat systems, advanced radar technology, and guided missile launch systems, along with other defense equipment. The technology is expected to improve early threat detection, response capabilities, and coordination with allied forces.
The State Department noted that the sale would significantly boost the German navy’s ability to address current and future threats, while improving interoperability with US and NATO forces.
The proposed deal has been submitted to the US Congress, which retains the authority to review and potentially block the transaction.
Officials described Germany as a cornerstone of political stability and economic strength in Europe, underlining the strategic importance of the agreement.
