The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has pledged to continue its humanitarian assistance in Yemen, including areas under Houthi control, despite escalating detentions of international organizations and UN agency staff by the Houthi authorities.

USAID reported that over 1.3 million Yemenis have benefited from its aid, as economic decline and dwindling livelihood opportunities have exacerbated food insecurity.

In a recent report, the agency highlighted that its partners have been distributing emergency food supplies, including US-sourced goods, cash, and vouchers for purchasing food in local markets.

One partner NGO provided cash distributions to nearly 6,800 households from the host community and around 2,000 internally displaced families, specifically for purchasing food.

In government-controlled areas, USAID distributed aid to residents in the provinces of Abyan, Al Dhale'e, and Lahij. Additionally, more than 1,800 families in Houthi-controlled regions of Al Jawf and Marib received assistance in April.

USAID emphasized its monthly support through emergency food assistance funded by the US government, aiming to address food insecurity.

The agency's partners distribute unconditional food assistance, designed to meet at least 80 percent of the caloric needs of vulnerable households.

Beyond food aid, USAID partners also distribute multi-purpose cash assistance to cover other essential needs, including shelter and hygiene products.
