The Uruguayan Football Association has canceled the national team's planned charter flight home following Uruguay's disappointing group-stage elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports, the federation informed members of the delegation that the collective return flight had been scrapped. Instead, players and staff will travel separately on commercial flights, with each player either returning to Uruguay or heading directly to his club.
The decision comes after La Celeste failed to qualify for the Round of 32, finishing third in Group H with just two points from three matches.
Uruguay opened its World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia before playing out a 2-2 draw with Cape Verde. Their hopes of progressing ended with a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final group-stage fixture.
The early exit marks one of Uruguay's most disappointing World Cup campaigns in recent years, with the two-time world champions unable to advance beyond the group stage despite entering the tournament with high expectations.
The federation's decision to cancel the charter flight underscores the abrupt end to the team's campaign as players now return individually following their elimination.
