The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Thursday of the dire impact of the extreme heat wave on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, given the limited resources needed to mitigate the heat.
UNRWA said in a post on its X platform that "temperatures in Gaza are exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, making an already dire situation even worse."
It added that with the scarcity of available water, the risk of dehydration is increasing.
It noted that in light of the ongoing Israeli bombardment, the forced displacement of residents, and the limited availability of electricity and fuel, there is no way to mitigate the impact of the extreme heat.
The UN agency stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
