Ghada Wali, Director of the United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime (UNODC), said on Monday that the UN in partnership with Egypt's government has launched two persuasive campaigns to raise awareness of corruption, which achieved great success.

In a statement, Wali revealed that the UN in cooperation with the National Anti-Corruption Academy has successfully trained 2400 experts to fight corruption and organized crime.

Wali made this statement during a press conference held on the sidelines of the ninth session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, held from 13 to 17 Dec. 2021 in Cairo.

The UN is combating corruption worldwide, Wali added, calling for further cooperation to address the issue.

The UNODC chief also mentioned that Egypt has successfully adapted to the UN system for combating corruption, noting that Egypt participates in several initiatives, launched by UNODC, including GlobE, Stolen Assets Recovery (StAR), and Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment (GRACE).

In the same light, she conveyed the international community's praise of the Egyptian experience in empowering women politically and economically, as well as empowering youth in the decision-making process.

It’s worth mentioning that the United Nations Convention against Corruption is the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument. This convention also shed light on many different forms of corruption, such as bribery, trading in influence, abuse of functions, and various acts of corruption in the private sector.
