The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) participated in Egypt’s Global Congress on Population, Health, and Development (PHDC’23), which is being held from September 5 to 8 under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the Ministry of Health and Population.
The PHDC’23 provided a unique opportunity for experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from around the globe to explore the dynamic inter-dependability between population, health, and development.
Through the wide range of activities during the congress, panelists and participants interactively addressed the challenges and forecasts, shared experiences, and best practices, and proposed mitigation plans, adaptation strategies and roadmaps.
UNICEF took part in several panel discussions in the fields of health, nutrition, climate change, women’s empowerment, and ending harmful practices against children.
In his remarks, Jeremy Hopkins, UNICEF Representative in Egypt said: "This Congress is an opportunity to truly shape Egypt and the region’s direction on ensuring equitable and accessible health rights for children in Egypt within the current and forecasted population demographics."
Hopkins added: "Children in Egypt comprise almost 40% of the total population, and it is of utmost importance for us at UNICEF to continue supporting the government efforts to ensure that children living in Egypt thrive and reach their full potential."
