On Thursday, UNICEF MENA Deputy Regional Director Marc Rubin visited Aswan governorate, where he met with displaced Sudanese families receiving humanitarian assistance provided by UNICEF in cooperation with the Egyptian Government and partners.
The visit included child-friendly spaces at the ‘Karkar’ bus stop, as well as national initiatives supported by UNICEF to include Sudanese children along with Egyptians such as ‘Dawwie’ (The National Girl Empowerment Initiative).
In a statement, Rubin said: "I would like to commend the Egyptian Government for its immediate response to the deteriorating situation in Sudan. The Government in cooperation with UNICEF, supported and provided humanitarian assistance to displaced Sudanese families."
He continued: " We still need more funding for this response. We also hope for a cease-fire in Sudan, because the continuation of the conflict will lead to the displacement of larger numbers of Sudanese families."
