UNICEF: More Than 2.2 Million Children Suffer from Acute Malnutrition in Yemen

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has confirmed that more than two million severely malnourished children in Yemen need medical care.

The UN mission in Yemen said, on its Twitter platform, that "malnutrition deprives millions of children in Yemen of their health and potential."

"With 2.2 million children suffering from severe acute malnutrition and more than 540,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition, we must act quickly to provide the necessary therapeutic care and support," the UN body added.

The lack of funding for the United Nations' humanitarian activities in Yemen threatens to exacerbate the humanitarian situation, especially after the announcement of the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, at the conclusion of the Yemen Donors Conference, in late February, that the United Nations had only succeeded in raising $1.2 billion. A UN plan estimated 4.3 billion that Yemen needs in 2023.
