In coincidence with the occasion of the World Refugee Day (WRD), UNHCR Egypt held a massive celebration event entitled "Refugee Day", in collaboration with UNFPA, WHO, TdH and Etijah, to celebrate refugee resilience and honor their talents.

In a statement, UNHCR Egypt said: "On World Refugee Day, we want you to know that seeking asylum is a human right and being a refugee means that you are protected by international law."

The event took place at the Safe Space in the Sheikh Zayed Youth Center with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland, the Royal Norwegian Embassy, and USAID.

The event featured several activities targeting refugee communities such as live music performances, an art therapy workshop, a sports activity for youth and an interactive theater performance, UNHCR revealed.

The celebration was attended by the UN Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova and a number of UN representatives in Egypt

WRD is an international occasion designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe, according to UNHCR.

It's worth mentioning that the day was observed globally for the first time on June 20, 2001, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
