The United Nations issued a warning on Sunday of severe flooding and destructive winds in Yemen as the effects of Cyclone Tyg begin to impact the region.

The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) stated in a press release that "Cyclone Tyg is affecting the Socotra Archipelago with strong winds and heavy rainfall and is on its way to potentially intensify into a severe tropical cyclone, with possible impacts on Yemen's Al Mahrah Governorate in the east and the border area with Oman."

The organization further noted that "destructive winds, dangerous storms, and severe flooding are likely as the system approaches the Yemeni coast."

The UN agency urged humanitarian leaders and decision-makers to take Cyclone Tyg into consideration in their plans and to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing that tropical systems can rapidly intensify and cause widespread damage upon landfall.

Additionally, the organization advised Yemeni fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea due to this climatic situation.

Cyclone Tyg poses a significant threat to Yemen, and the UN's warning highlights the need for preparedness and response efforts to mitigate its potential impact on the region.
